HEXAGRAM 16 - Yu

IN ANTICIPATION

KEY:  PLANNING AHEAD

MESSAGE:  SELF SATISFACTION

MAIN COMMENTARY

Hexagram 16 describes a situation in terms of what is needed to plan ahead and be prepared in advance to meet the future. You need to be shrewd and cautious and have the foresight to plan ahead to mobilize yourself or your team at the right moment.

There is a sense of hope and something to look forward to. A sense of purpose allows you remain hopeful. Feeling self-fulfilled and happy keeps you moving. The anticipation makes you feel invigorated and alive. You are eager and excited to press forward but it's to your advantage to be steadfast, not only once in a while but from beginning to end. You need to have absolute confidence that the action you take is the right one before making any move in future. It’s favourable to form alliances and establish partnerships first and to be encouraging and supportive so as to form tight bonds.

Hexagram 16 gives the analogy of people riding on decorated elephants while singing and dancing in the streets to represent  an emotionally uplifting and exhilarating experience. Like  celebrating a major life event. The ancient rulers composed music to please and show respect to a supreme deity and celebrate life. In this way they showed their deep admiration and respect for the higher power in their life and affairs. Similar to a church choir where music is an expression of gratitude and praise and worship to a higher power. Music is therapy for the soul.

As a person it shows someone who inspires with music and dancing, who is deeply admired and respected and who arouses enthusiasm and joy in others. Here is someone who caters to the wishes of the people to win their admiration and support and is able to form tight bonds.

LINES ANALYSIS

LINE 1

It's a bad sign to gloat and be cheerful before you've completed a task or attained a goal. This is just the beginning phase and you are in no a position to be celebrating, it will only lead to calamity. Celebrating before you've completed something instead of attending to your responsibilities is a sign of limited ambition. Only after you've succeeded in overcoming challenges or completed your work should you celebrate.

LINE 2

A superior person is correct and solid as a rock not only once but all the time.  They know it's not about good and bad timing but about making the right choices. They do not become wildly enthusiastic about things but have a moderate and steady approach in life. A superior person prepares ahead of time and uses foresight and precaution. They observe what motivates people and they are not easily flattered and influenced.

LINE 3

You will regret it if you can't control your desires and enthusiastically pursue what you think will bring you happiness  If you hesitate to correct your behaviour it will lead to further regret.  Avoid making the wrong choices.

LINE 4

Have no doubts and be confident. Stop suspecting others because you've had bad experiences in the past. Once you make your move friends will gather, like a hair clasp that binds hair, and form strong bonds with you. You will become a source of happiness and everyone will be pleased and inspired by you.

LINE 5

Don’t worry it won’t kill you. You have a chronic illness or chronic problem nagging you but it will not last long. It’s been causing you suffering and mental distress for quite some time. You are in a position where it's difficult to back down and this is making you mentally and physically sick. Make a great effort to be strong and gain back your confidence.

LINE 6

You are deluding yourself. How long can this last? You need a rude awakening from instant gratification and pleasures of the moment so that you don’t make the same mistake in future.
